intro |
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text
where data is missing or uncertain.
The following is based upon original research by R. E. Tulloss. |
pileus |
100 mm wide, pale peachy tan (slightly more yellow and slightly more brown than 5A4) with somewhat grayish-brown disc, campanulate, umbonate, tacky, metallic-shiny; context white with pale yellowish or orangish region just below pileipellis; margin striate (0.25R), nonappendiculate, decurved at first; universal veil absent. |
lamellae |
free with faint and short decurrent line on stipe apex (10× lens), close, pale peachy cream in mass, off-white to pale cream in side view, unchanging when cut or bruised, 6 - 6.5 mm broad, with minutely fimbriate edge (white near stipe and concolorous with stipe decoration near margin), with underside of pileus orange between gills in exsiccatum; lamellulae truncate to subtruncate, unevenly distributed (many pairs of lamellae unseparated by lamellula), not uncommon, of diverse lengths. |
stipe |
142 × 14 mm, with pale ground color, with pale peach pulverulence near apex, below with chevron pattern of fibrils down to nearly mid-stipe, then in appressed similarly colored patches to point about two-thirds distance from apex, decoration browning from handling, narrowing upward, slightly flattened, not expanded at apex, with small projection centered on base; context white to pale off-white with watery streaks, not changing when cut or bruised, stuffed with densely packed white fibrils, with 6 mm wide central cylinder; exannulate; universal veil as saccate volva, membranous, copious, white on exterior, palely concolorous with pileus on inner surface, attached only at base of stipe, up to 54 mm from stipe base to uppermost point of limb, 1.5 mm thick at midpoint of free limb, with distinct small limbus internus 4 - 7 mm above point of attachment of limb. |
odor/taste |
Odor indistinct. Taste bland. |
macrochemical tests |
none recorded. |
basidiospores |
[20/1/1] (8.0-) 8.8 - 11.0 (-12.9) × (6.8-) 7.0 - 9.0 (-11.0) µm, (L = 10.0 µm; W = 8.2 µm; Q = 1.11 - 1.39; Q = 1.23), hyaline, colorless, thin-walled, smooth, ??, subglobose to broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid; apiculus sublateral, cylindric, small; contents monoguttulate with additional small granules; color in deposit unknown. |
ecology |
Solitary at 3050± m elev. In open forest of Populus tremuloides and Picea, growing in very rotten conifer wood. |
